John A. Vogel, 80, of Fort Hill, passed on September 10, 2017 at home. Born February 22, 1937 in Confluence, he is a son of the late Leonard Vogel and Evanell (Holliday) Vogel Pyle. He is also preceded in death by his brother Edwin Vogel. John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty (Smith) Vogel; daughter Vickie Whaley and husband Rodney of Confluence; son John Vogel of Fort Hill; and sister Virginia Ross and husband Richard of Somerset. John was a former employee of Bethlehem Steel in Johnstown and later worked as a self-employed welder. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and traveling, especially to the Smokey Mountains. An avid outdoorsman, he liked to hunt, fish, and cut firewood. He also was very fond of his special dog, Rufus. There will be no visitation or service at his request.
